The Optimist Creed

I would like to share the following with everyone who is feeling down, have lost faith - in people, the government, or who have encountered problems within the current economic catastrophes that have plagued the U.S. markets (any Lehman Bros. employees?).

My mom sent this to me when I was down and I put it on my office desk. Even though it is just a general list of platitudes, if anyone gets anything out of it, it will have been worth posting.

Chin up, kid.

The Optimist Creed

To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own..
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the great achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

Awesome, Dawn - I wish you well and thank you for reading! It is very Chicken-Soup-For-The-Soul-ish but sometimes we could all use a little Campbell's, can't we?

God Bless!

Went to a Unitarian church today and the sermon was about pacifism. It was the story of this particular persons journey through the Vietnam era, and being drafted and about to serve in the army when suddenly the draft was stopped. It shaped him into a pacifist. He spoke about his frustrations with people who say pacifism is unrealistic. He said, to all of you perpetuating our current situation in the name of Jesus Christ, shame on you. The prince of peace would've never stood for that. And furthermore, to those of you who say worldwide peace is unattainable, I quote the great prophet Jagger, "Hey, You, get off of my cloud." Yeah, for optimism.

Have you heard of the late folk singer / pacificist Utah Phillips? I think you would dig some of his work. It is right up your alley, I think, in his storytelling methods.
